UPDATES FROM THE FIELD

May 15th, 2020

Hi friends!!

So May is here & we have an occupancy permit for our Vet Clinic in the Wing!! We are so excited to offer this wonderful asset to the animals of the region. A big beautiful lobby and reception area, 8 exam rooms, separate dog & cat waiting areas & x-ray, just to start off! Soon, we will also offer general surgery! All of this awesome will have its soft opening May 3rd. We still need 2.8 million to finish the whole project. There are still many naming opportunities & square feet to purchase. We still give tours of the "Wing" every Saturday at 1 pm. There will be an awesome party for all the "Wing" donors, Sunday June 14th from 1-4 pm.

The past weekend would have been our Gigantic Garage Sale at the Canfields Fairgrounds. Of course, not only did it not happen, the Shelter did not receive the huge financial boost which is 7% of our operating budget. As you may have heard, we are doing an online sale at Baerauction.hibid.com. It will go online May14th. There will be an in person preview May 23rd from 10-4 at the Hay & Grain Building #26 at the Canfield Fairgrounds. The sale will end Wednesday, May 27th at 7 pm.

There are a lot of questions about donations. We would love to have items for the sale donated but….they have to be the type of item that is suitable for this type of sale. We can't sell most clothing, or any volume items like we sell at the Garage Sale.

The items have to be photographed, described and catalogued. It is a lot of work & the items have to be worth the effort. To do this process, it also has to have enough appeal to get someone to buy it from a photograph. Anyone who has an item that is suitable, can call me or Robin.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

We have had some people step up to our monthly donation program. Here is  a few reminders about financial donations- 1.) We need them this year more than ever. 2.) There are many ways to do it. Keep in mind credit cards & PayPal have transaction fees deducted (about 3%). Automatic bank deductions, Face Book and checks do not. 3.) It will be wonderful for the Shelter to have our "Angel Family" back us up & give us a financial base every month.

So … we are asking you all to get on our new membership list.  This project is inspired by the “9 Levels of Angels.”  There are three “giving” categories available for your monthly gift:

- ANGEL WING:  Our Capital Campaign is our future.  The Wing will provide full service vet care to all animals, owned & stray.  It will also provide revenue to fund our shelter.

- GENERAL FUND:  The overhead involved in running the shelter is CRUSHING – food and litter are the biggest part, but electricity, gas and maintenance are huge expenses.  We must pay these bills or risk being shut off – just like anyone else.

- SPECIAL PROGRAMS:  Spay and neuter funds like BOGO, Show Us the Mommy and our Pit Bull fund. Special needs programs like the Ricky’s Fund, Valentine Fund for Eyes and the Care Fund are programs for our dogs and cats that provide specialty vet services and add comfort for our in-house pets that are waiting for adoption.

Below are suggested donor levels and the accompanying level in the membership program.

COVID-19 UPDATE

ANGELS IS CHANGING HOW WE OPERATE DUE TO THE COVID-19 HEALTH CRISIS

Tuesday, APRIL 3, 2020

To comply with CDC guidelines and to deal with the lack of medical supplies and to keep stocks high for human medicine the following steps are being put into place immediately.   These steps will remain in place until the crisis is over.

ADOPTION CENTER:

Hours change
Friday early closing at 6 PM

In an effort to keep our guests, volunteers and staff as safe as possible, we will be changing how our adoption process works for the time being.

1.       During this time there will be NO CASUAL VISITS to browse retail or the adoption center.

2.       We are trying to limit the number of people coming into the shelter. If you are serious about adopting a dog or cat, please fill out a pre-adoption form on our website www.angelsforanimals.org.

3.       Once you are approved, we will call you and set up a time for you to come and visit and hopefully find a new forever friend.

4.       If you come to the shelter in person, you will be asked to fill out the pre-adoption form in your car and will be scheduled for an appointment, most likely NOT the same day.

5.       Visitors will be LIMITED

6.       If you or anyone in your family is ill or may have been exposed, do not visit the shelter at this time.

SPAY-NEUTER:

1.       All non-critical spay-neuter surgeries are being LIMITED.  Exceptions will be made for pregnant or in emergency/in-distress animals.  All special programs will be honored after the crisis is over.

2.       Anyone coming for a spay-neuter that is not-cancelled will be checked in outside and need to remain in their vehicle until the assistants can get to you.  This will result in longer wait times for the same services so be prepared to wait.

3.       If you or anyone in your family is ill or may have been exposed, call us to reschedule your appointment.   You will not lose your deposit for last minute cancellations during this crisis.

VET-CLINIC:

1.       At this time we will continue to see veterinary patients for sick and end-of-life visits.  However social distancing will be in force and you may need to wait in the lobby while we examine your animal.  In many cases you will NOT be permitted in the exam rooms during your visit.

2.       If you or anyone in your family is ill or may have been exposed, call us to reschedule your appointment.   You will not lose your deposit for last minute cancellations during this crisis.

VOLUNTEERS:

1.       Volunteer shifts are still open to care for the shelter animals, however if you do not feel comfortable leaving you home at this time please call and cancel with the crew/leader or department manager in whose department you volunteer.

2.       If you or anyone in your family is ill or may have been exposed, please immediately call off, for the next two weeks.

We hope that during this uncertain time, we can minimize the number of people in our clinic and shelter and follow CDC guidelines as they are as of now.

We will continue to do our due diligence in not only our normal sanitizing procedures, but have even more protocols in place to make everything within our shelter as safe as possible.

As the situation is rapidly evolving, we will keep you updated to anymore changes.

Capital Campaign
Angel Wing 2019
Angels has a vision to help animals and our community like never before. We want to build a new wing that will be a model for  animal welfare in the state of Ohio. The Angel Wing will offer affordable veterinary care, allow us to dramatically increase the number of spay/neuter surgeries, and it will also allow us to provide increased care and intake for abandoned animals.

But we need your help! More dogs like Takoda will have a safe place to grow strong and start their new lives once our building is complete. We will have more space which will give us more opportunities to help the animals who need us most. If you are able to help us complete this mission by making a donation, please click the link below. Any amount helps!
