To help your CAT recover from the effects of anesthesia and/or surgery, we request you follow these instructions.

  1. Your cat may act confused.  This is due to the anesthesia and is normal for 12 to 48 hours.  To avoid possible injury, confine your cat to a small area, avoid the use of stairs, jumping, playing, keep your cat indoors for at least 48 hours and provide a clean litterbox.

  2. Anesthesia can cause nausea even when the animal may want food. If your cat appears hungry, a small amount of food is allowed. If your cat vomits, immediately remove ALL food and treats and do not give any more until the next day.

  3. Restrict water intake to no more than 1/4 cup every 2 hours until the next morning.

  4. Pets may not have a bowel movement for a few days due to fasting & lack of appetite after surgery.

  1. Dissolvable sutures are used unless otherwise noted, and DO NOT NEED to be removed.

  2. It takes at-least 10 days for an incision to heal.

  3. DO NOT ALLOW licking or chewing at incision site, this can lead to infection.

  4. E-collars are recommended to prevent licking at incision (additional $10)

  5. Check the incision site DAILY. If you notice any signs of excessive swelling, redness or discharge, please call us. Do not apply any topical medication to the incision site. This can delay healing and encourage licking.

  6. To avoid stress on the incision, donít let children pick up or play with your cat for a few days after surgery.  Avoid stairs, jumping, playing, and running. (Reduce overall activity)

  7. Do not bathe the animal for 10 days after surgery.

If MEDICATION is prescribed:

  1. For pain medication, begin administering late in the evening on same day of surgery (unless otherwise instructed).

  2. For Antibiotics, begin administering next day (unless otherwise instructed).

  3. For De-wormers, administer entire dose at one time 24-48 hrs after surgery.

  4. Finish all medications completely no matter how much improvement you may notice..

Every animal recovers differently from anesthesia and surgery.  Some nausea, vomiting and lethargy is common for 24 hours afterwards.  If this should persist, or appear acute, please call (330) 549-1111 Extension 129.  Note you may reach voicemail, if you do we will call you back as soon as we can, within the scope of our normal hours of operation.
